Where I Belong
When Heather Samis moves in next door, she and Tanner Wolfe quickly become best
friends. They help each other through high school and college, date other
people, and write letters during their missions. Heather passionately dreams of
becoming an artist, while Tanner has his life mapped out as an executive at his
father’s software company. Their friendship is too important to let romance get
in the way.
Then the impossible happens, and the invisible line between friendship and love
is blurred. But Heather has seen her mother give up a promising artistic talent
to raise ten children and serve in the Church. She is determined she will not
sacrifice her own talent.
Her testimony seriously shaken, Heather finds herself faced with a decision that
will change her life forever. She desperately wants to allow herself to love her
best friend and become a mother to their children, yet how can she forget her
lifelong dream of succeeding in the art world? And if she does choose love, can
she be truly happy without the art that is as much a part of her as breathing?
There seems to be no way to succeed in both. Or is there?
What Others Are Saying
Rachel Ann Nunes's Powerful New Novel . . . tackles a subject we often are reluctant to talk about in the church, and one we seldom see discussed in a balanced, open manner that never loses its gospel focus . . . The struggle to achieve professional and personal fulfillment without sacrificing the needs of our families is a woman's struggle and the heart wrenching choices are never trivialized or reduced to mindless slogans by this gifted author. It is a novel for anyone who is asked to sacrifice for the gospel or is faced with challenging choices. (To read Terrie's entire review, click here.) Terrie Lynn Bittner, BellaOnline's LDS Families Host Your book Where I Belong reaches into your gut, and moves your soul around more than most that I have read. A job very well done Rachel! You balanced "the world" and all the temptations that are in it with the reality of the blessings of reaching your potential. Living on the outside of Utah looking in so to speak, makes you appreciate a book like this. Keep sharing your gift with us Rachel. Valora Otis I just wanted to share with you how exactly you hit the nail on the head with some things I've been going through lately, just a total feeling of overwhelm at the whole motherhood thing and feeling resentful toward my children for cutting into my writing time, then feeling guilty for feeling that way. Thanks for writing this book—it was great to know that I wasn't alone in what I'm going through! Tristi Pinkston, author of Nothing To Regret Click here to read more reviews

Author's Comments
Some time ago, someone asked if it was possible for an active LDS person to
really succeed in an artistic career. Being a writer who is actively LDS and a
mother of six children, I have faced my own challenges in this area. I believe
my gender complicates the issue considerably. When Dad is gone from the home,
Mom fills in. But who can take her place when her mind is elsewhere? Thus began
the seed of this novel.
The main character, Heather, is an artist who has seen her mother give up a
promising artistic talent to raise ten children and serve in the Church. She is
determined she will not sacrifice her own talent in the same manner. Driven by
this fear, she begins to view her religion and her culture in a completely new
light and her testimony is seriously shaken. When love presents itself, she must
search for her own truth to make a decision she will have to live with for the
rest of her life.
